detailed description of town and location: The skiing experience in the family skiing region of Weissensee is not characterised by a hectic bustle, but by the delightful enjoyment of family-friendly ski runs. The "Meterix” – the children’s centimetre of Lake Weissensee – is a special attraction for families, and the ultimate hit for the kids is the Weissensee kids’ ski world with the BOBO children’s ski school.

The fog-free, sun-drenched high valley of Weissensee is also a paradise for cross-country skiers. A network of double cross-country trails spanning 50km, as well as 15km of skating trails, awarded the Carinthian Seal of Excellence, lead you from an altitude of 930m to 1400m. And with a surface of 6.5km², Lake Weissensee – already known as Carinthia’s first address for ice sports – boasts the largest consistently frozen and prepared natural ice surface in Europe. From mid-December until mid-March, the up to 40cm-thick ice layer not only permits ice skating, speed skating, curling and ice-hockey games, but you may also encounter horse-drawn sleighs and winter hikers enjoying the unspoilt natural setting on the ice.

Winter enthusiasts may enjoy up to 40km of cleared hiking paths along the lakeshore and up to the Alm hinterm Brunn or Naggler Alm pastures, where a cosy hut serving food and drinks awaits you even in winter. Naggler Alm can also be reached comfortably from the valley with the 4-seater chairlift of the Weissensee cable car line, and if you don’t feel like walking down to the valley, you may want to give the 4km-long natural toboggan run a go!
